...In theory you practice yoga by yourself. Somewhere at the back of every yoga practice is a faded archetype, a jaundiced photograph of an indian sage with huge eyes and a loincloth, some South Asian trees, a long-lost sky and a handful of mysterious buildings.
And that man alone in India is the idealized yogi. Then, of course, there is the contemporary Western yoga studio. Some of them very beautiful; loft or warehouse styled spaces with high ceilings, brilliant skylights and expensive wooden floors. And these beautiful studios tend to attract beautiful people which is kind of good but may, I think, scare off some people who might otherwise really benefit from the yoga.

Yoga For People Who Don't Do Yoga!
...d us till we were doing things properly and safely. I must admit that the focus on paying attention to your body was extremely calming and I for one fell into a pleasant semi meditative state.
Next we were introduced to a few simple yoga postures which I was delighted to discover even I could do with a modicum of finesse! The names of these postures were intriguing and sometimes downright funny The Tree, The Dancer, The Mountain, The Lion and my personal favourite, The Corpse. As we held each position we were encouraged to move into the posture a little bit more with each out breathe. Jennifers encouragement that In yoga, one millimetre is progress was a great comfort to a generally inflexible person like me- and it worked. As the days progressed, the postures got easier and my flexibility was much improved.

Hatha Yoga
